Ballet is an artistic dance form based on formal classical technique, characterized by gestures and movements of grace, precision, and fluidity. Ballet is the base for all dance forms and provides strength, technique and beauty to dancers of all ages.
Lyrical dance is a dance style that blends ballet and jazz dance. Lyrical is generally smoother and a bit faster than ballet, but not quite as fast as jazz. A lyrical dancer uses movement to express emotions. Lyrical dancers usually perform to music with lyrics…the lyrics of the chosen song serve as inspiration for movements and expressions.
Jazz has become one of the most popular dance styles in recent years, mainly due to its popularity in television shows, movies, music videos and commercials. People enjoy watching jazz dancers, as the dancing is fun and energetic. This type of dancing consists of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns. Great for ages 5 and up.
Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. This style stresses versatility and improvisation, unlike the strict, structured nature of ballet. Contemporary dancers focus on floor work, using gravity to pull them down to the floor.
Hip hop is a very energetic form of dancing that brings many popular elements in from music videos and other popular media. It is unique in that it allows its dancers to perform with freedom of movement, adding in their own personalities. This dance form has become very popular and includes several different styles. It is fun for ages 5 to adult.
Tap classes are offered to students ages 4 and up and focus on rhythm, musicality and timing. All classes begin with an energetic warm-up, across the floor exercises and combinations. Tap is a fun high energy class and enjoyed by all ages.
Beginner Adult Ballet is perfect for the adult that has always wanted to try dance or loved it as a child and would like to revisit it. The class will focus on the basics of ballet technique, with an emphasis on proper alignment, musicality and fluidity of movement. The 90 minute class will have barre and centre floor components, all while experiencing, learning, and enjoying the grace of ballet. It is a gentle and fun way to get your body moving.
Advanced Adult Ballet is a class designed for adults who have previous Ballet experience and have higher level technique. Adults in this class will work through Advanced level Cecchetti exercises.
Stretch & Strength was created for adults who want to increase flexibility and strength in a positive and non-competitive environment. It has some basic dance elements, but the focus is to improve overall body movement and fitness in a relaxed and fun atmosphere.
Tap/Jazz Combo is the perfect class for the dancer who is unable to pick a specific dance style. The class is split into two parts. Jazz and Tap. The students will have fun learning basic movements and technique in both styles.
Improve Your Turns is geared for the student who wishes to improve their turning technique in a smaller class environment. The class will focus on “back to basics” turns and will then advance the dancers as certain goals are achieved.
Ballet Technique is a non-recital class that focuses on the Graded Ballet syllabus that the dancers are currently taking. The class combines barre work, centre exercises as well as some pointe work and repertoire.
Senior Ballet incorporates barre and centre work with an emphasis on technique and fluid ballet movement. This class incorporates, turns, grande allegro and some repertoire as well.
Senior Jazz visits multiple styles of Jazz throughout the year. It is high energy and for dancers who are ready to sweat!
Senior Hip Hop is a fast paced class that visits a variety of hip hop styles. It is high energy, fun and is for dancers who want to expand their hip hop technique.
Senior Contemporary/Lyrical will focus on traditional contemporary elements while adding some lyrical technique as well.
Senior Pointe is a technique class that develops your child’s strength and balance which is needed for good pointe form. Two Ballet Technique classes are a prerequisite for this class, as good ballet habits are crucial to beginning pointe. As the dancers develop, so will the scope of difficulty at each level.
Senior Tap is for dancers who have a solid base of good tap technique. It is a fun, high energy class that will push dancers in a positive and productive way.
