Jayla Mathews has been a dancer since the age of 3, quickly becoming involved in all genres of dance at a competitive level at 8 years old. She trained in all genres of dance, including tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, hip hop, acrobatics and ballet. During her years of dance, she was the recipient of many awards while attending dance workshops as well as throughout the competition circuit as an ensemble member and solo performer, including ‘Top Star Soloist’ in 2016. More recently, Jayla took part in the International Dance Mentorship Program, participating in workshops focusing on the genre of hip hop. This mentorship allowed her to be mentored by industry professionals around the world, including Carlo Darang and Reet Roy.
Jayla has been choreographing for both competitive and recreational programs since the age of 19. Her specialties include hip hop and acrobatics, having completed her full Acrobatic Arts teaching certification in 2018. Jayla’s competitive routines have been recognized and awarded with numerous special, choreography and overall awards. Always looking for more opportunities to grow as a teacher and dance educator, Jayla continuously attends teacher training programs and seminars, including the continual extension of her Acrobatic Arts license. Jayla is known for allowing students to feel comfortable in the studio space and explore themselves within the different genres of dance. She strives to help her students not only work towards becoming better dancers, but to see themselves as artists.
